A brand-new review published in Frontiers in Public Health (2025) takes a deep look at how EMF exposure from things like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cell phones may impact the body on a biological level.

The researchers explain that exposure to man-made EMFs has “increased tremendously” in recent years — unlike anything humans have ever experienced before. They found that EMFs can disrupt the way our cells communicate by affecting the tiny electrical channels that control energy flow in and out of cells.
When that happens, it can create oxidative stress — basically an overload of “free radicals” that can damage DNA, speed up aging, and impact fertility and immune health. The study notes that these effects can happen even at exposure levels far below what current safety limits consider “dangerous.”
One of the most interesting parts of the paper mentions that EMF exposure can also trigger symptoms in people who identify as electromagnetically sensitive (EHS) — things like fatigue, brain fog, headaches, or trouble sleeping — and that this may be due to stress on the body’s natural electrical systems.
The authors write:
“Exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields is associated with oxidative stress, DNA damage, cell aging, infertility, and related effects.”
While this doesn’t mean everyone will feel immediate symptoms, it’s a reminder that constant exposure — especially when we carry our phones all day or sleep near routers — adds up over time.
