What Are EMF's?

Electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, are energy that electrical devices and wiring produce. You've been surrounded by them your whole life: the earth has its own magnetic field, sunlight is electromagnetic radiation, and your own heart and brain run on electrical signals that an ECG and an EEG can measure.

Two kinds of EMF

Extremely low-frequency (ELF) fields come from power lines, household wiring, and appliances. Radio-frequency (RF) fields come from phones, Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth, smart meters, and cell towers. Both are non-ionizing, meaning they don't carry enough energy to break chemical bonds the way X-rays and gamma rays do.

What the evidence shows

The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies both RF and ELF fields as possibly carcinogenic (Group 2B), and what everyday exposure means for health is still debated among researchers. Some studies raise concerns; others find no effect at typical levels. We think the honest response is neither panic nor dismissal. What's much better established is that light at night, sitting all day, and chronic noise affect how we feel and sleep, and those are worth addressing too.

What lowers your exposure

  • Distance: keep your phone off your body when you can, and use speakerphone or wired earbuds for long calls.
  • Darkness: charge your phone outside the bedroom and turn your Wi-Fi router off at night.
  • Layout: keep your bed away from walls with electrical panels or meters.
  • Measure: an RF meter and a gaussmeter will show you your real exposures at home.

Where Hedron fits

Hedron pieces are designed as anchors for daily practice, alongside these habits, not instead of them. They don't block or reduce EMF. Read how Hedron works.
